Sport and Fitness Bursary Scheme
What is the Bursary Scheme?
This is a scheme funded by the proceeds of events run by the Trust at Westway Sports Centre or Portobello Green Fitness Club and by donations made by external agencies e.g. Warburg Pincus kindly donated £10,000 to the scheme in 2008. It is hoped that the Trust will raise extra funds each year to top up the available funding.
The aim of the scheme is to support young people in the local community who want to regularly take part in Trust organised sports and fitness activities (especially at the Westway Sports Centre) but find it difficult to pay the fees. There are two levels of bursary:
Performance bursary: for young people who have already shown some promise when training at the Westway and will probably be in a squad.
Development bursary: for children who are starting out on using the Westway and may not have shown any particular aptitude for a sport yet.
How much is a bursary?
The normal performance bursary for a six month period is £250 although in exceptional circumstances a bursary of up to £500 may be considered. For development bursaries it is more likely to be £100 for 2-3 months.
All forms should be returned to John O’Brien, Director, Sport and Fitness, Westway Development Trust, 1 Thorpe Close W10 5XL
