Overview Of Our Governance Model
Our constitution sets out the principles and procedures by which Westway Trust is governed and our work is overseen by our trustees.
The trustees have overall control of the charity and are responsible for making sure it’s running well and is doing what it was set up to do. This includes ensuring the charity:
- spends its money sensibly, on the activities it was raised for
- doesn’t break the rules in our Articles – the governing document
- continues to meet our commitments to the communities we serve in accordance with our charitable objectives
- follows the law, including preparing reports and accounts to send to the Charity Commission
The Board of Trustees is made up of people from a diverse range of backgrounds and experience.
Three trustees are elected by our Member Organisations. These range from community groups and residents’ associations to schools and sports clubs.
We now have more than 60 Member Organisations, which include groups such as Age UK Kensington & Chelsea, Eritrean Gheez Rite Community Association, Kensington & Chelsea Mind and the Pepper Pot Day Centre.
Three trustees are nominated by The Royal Borough of Kensington & Chelsea (RBKC).
Up to six other trustees are openly-recruited for the skills and expertise they can offer, such as community insight, finance, property development and law.
All trustees share the responsibility to ensure that our assets and resources ‘ such as rental income from properties – are used to the best advantage of our local communities. The Trustees are all volunteers.
Trustees normally serve a maximum of two consecutive terms of three years, but in exceptional circumstances a Trustee may be permitted to serve a third consecutive term of office, for example if the Trustee in question has particular skills or experience that the Trust cannot readily replace.
