Join us for a forum on the role of archiving in communities like North Kensington—where history, culture, and identity are deeply rooted in lived experience and shared memory. Together, we’ll explore how community archiving can be a powerful way to honour stories and build collective knowledge.

This session will also highlight the role of digital archiving as one of the many tools available to make memory work more accessible, collaborative, and sustainable.

The forum is being hosted in partnership with the Black Cultural Archives, the UK’s national institution dedicated to collecting, preserving and celebrating the histories of African and Caribbean people in Britain.

Harlynn Homan is the Archives Manager at Black Cultural Archives (BCA) who will be facilitating the discussion. She is an Indian archivist whose practice focuses on amplifying underrepresented narratives and promoting inclusive access to archives.

Her work often explores the impact of digitalization and digital archives in the archival field—its significance in today’s world, cost implications, safety measures, and the challenges it presents, particularly within under-resourced and community-driven contexts. Drawing on her experience managing a fully digital archive at The Citizens' Archive of India (CAI), and integrating digital collections as part of the wider holdings at BCA, Harlynn brings a grounded perspective on the complexities and possibilities of digital archival practice.

Expect an evening of discussion, reflection, learning and connection—plus a Q&A and refreshments.
