Getting to know your local community (beginners) For students who can speak or write only a few words in English or none at all. On this course you will be inducted to the local library, as well as other local areas of interest such as citizen's Advice Bureau.

(mixed level)

This is a mixed level course for learners who can have a short conversation in English and write simple emails. On this course you will be inducted to the local library as well as other local areas of interest such as Citizen's Advice Bureau. There will be an opportunity for you to participate in a language exchange event as part of the course.
English communication skills for life and work A short Entry 3 course to support English speaking and listening. In this course you will develop skills to express yourself confidently and do the most important and common everyday tasks at work and at home. 
Develop your English communication skills for work and life A short course for learners who have a good knowledge of the English language. In this course you will develop communication skills to help you become a more confident reader, writer, speaker and listener in English for work and life.
Becoming confident with digital skills on your computer and online For students who can speak or write few words in English. This is a short course to develop a solid foundation in using computers and being online. You will develop your internet skills to find information quickly and efficiently.
Essential digital skills for work For students who have a good knowledge of the English language. This is a practical course that will develop your confidence in using different digital devices and tools.  You will learn to collaborate and communicate efficiently with work colleagues, to create and edit documents and presentations and make simple spreadsheets.

Ascentis ESOL Entry 1 Award in Skills for Life: Reading

For learners who can speak or write few words in English to develop their reading skills.

On this beginners course you will practise reading, learn new words and grammar, how to read about yourself, your family and friends. You will take the Ascentis Entry 1 ESOL Reading exams if you are ready.

Ascentis ESOL Entry 2 Award in Skills for Life: Reading

Can you have short conversations in English, and write simple emails, but want to do more?

This course will help you read about more interesting subjects and make fewer mistakes so people can understand you, you can understand them and you can read important messages, emails, forms and news stories. You will take the Ascentis ESOL Entry 2 Reading exams if you are ready.

Ascentis ESOL Entry 3 Award in Skills for Life: Reading

Are you confident in your everyday English? Is it difficult to read about more complicated topics? This pre-intermediate course will help you practise your reading so that you can understand people better, talk about most daily topics, read a simple news story. You will take the Ascentis ESOL Entry 3 Reading exams if you are ready.

Ascentis ESOL Level 1 Award in Skills for Life: Reading

Are you a confident speaker and writer of English? This intermediate course will help you read about more complicated topics with greater accuracy.

You will practise reading for gist and practise summarising the mains points plus extracting details. You will also practise identifying the purpose and tone of different texts and distinguishing opinion from fact.

You will take the Ascentis ESOL Level 1 Reading exams if you are ready.

Ascentis ESOL Level 2 Award in Skills for Life: Reading

Do you have a good level of competency in all areas of your English? Can you express yourself accurately in speaking and writing and understand most television and radio? This upper-intermediate to advanced course will enrich your vocabulary in both formal and informal English, enhance your grammar and prepare you fully for the demands of work and study in the UK.

You will take the Ascentis ESOL Level 2 Reading exams if you are ready.

ESOL Literacy Beginners Reading Pre-Entry

For students who can speak or write only a few words in English or maybe none at all. On this beginners' course, you will learn new words and grammar, how to ask and answer questions, how to read and write about yourself, your family, and friends, and how to complete forms and short emails.

You will learn a lot of basic vocabulary and the spelling.

Before this course, you need to do a pre-course assessment face-to-face.

OCN Introduction to working as a Teaching Assistant

An accredited introductory course that is ideal for people looking to return to work, re-train or work as a teaching assistants. This course will teach you the skills and knowledge you need, to be a confident teaching assistant. We will cover safeguarding, health and safety, learning disabilities and barriers to learning and much more.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course. However, literacy and numeracy skills at Level 1 are needed as you will need to complete a portfolio to obtain the OCN certificate.
