Funding local residents, groups and projects through grants or investments is how Westway Trust makes a big difference to North Kensington. Our aspiration is to see a thriving ecology of community groups across the area, with Westway seen as a trusted and enabling funder and partner.

Westway has identified six priority areas for investment activity within the community, based on our experience, consultation with local people and groups, and research we commissioned in 2018/9. The six priority areas are:

  1. Isolation
  2. Spaces for young people
  3. Recreation and exercise
  4. Economic participation
  5. Arts and culture
  6. The environment

A summary of the research report and its recommendations can be found here.

Our grants programmes are guided by our Horizon Plan and a Grants Review conducted in 2022.

As a result of the research, all of our current funding programmes outlined below, reflect a commitment to improving opportunities for local people in these priority areas.

What does "Community Centring" mean to you?

In 2021, we published our Horizon Plan, a strategic document which sets out our aims, objectives and key strategic work packages between now and 2025. Central to this document is our aim to “be community centered in all that we do”. We have thought a lot about what this looks like both in our operations and our communications and will be publishing our thoughts to support our Horizon Plan later this year.  We also want to hear and share a wide range of views on the topic from across our diverse community. We’d like to invite individuals from North Kensington to submit a short paper, outlining what Community Centering means to them. If you’d like to submit your thoughts then please send a 200 word summary of what you’d like to say.  Here are things to consider: What does ‘community centering’ mean to you? What does a community centered organisation look like? What are some stand-out examples of successful community-centered organisations? We will then look at all those we receive and invite a number of individuals to write a full paper on the topic. These will be published in a compendium of approaches to community centering, which will give us an opportunity to continue a dialogue with our communities on this topic.  [formidable id="187" title="1"] ...
